1.3.4 Etere desktop installation

This chapter describes the new procedure for installing Etere desktop applications.

Compared to the old procedure (see chapter 1.3.3.0 Etere desktop installation (old) for details), it requires etereweb to be installed and configured on a web server before any other PC.

INSTALLATION ON WEB SERVER

1. Access the web server with an administrator user. Download the Etere Installer (EtereInstall.exe) locally and run it, then download the package EtereInstall_*.zip and install at least the Etere Configuration.

2. Run Etere Configuration as administrator and set up the database settings

3. Run EtereUpdate.exe to install EtereWeb. See chapter 1.3.6.0 Etereweb setup for the detailed procedure about the Etereweb installation.

4. EtereWeb setup will copy:
- EtereInstall.exe
- The Etere zip package
- The database settings information, exporting an xml file
- The prerequisite files needed by Etere
into the EtereWeb site, in the EtereInstall folder, for download by clients.

5. Log in to Etereweb and go to User preferences > User for Install. Insert an account with permissions to update the machines in the system; it will be used to install and update clients.

6. Go to the ETERE Install/Upgrade section and check if the link is available.

Otherwise, if you see the message "There's no file to be downloaded" instead of the link, make sure the user set in point 5 has administrator permissions and that the credentials are correct. If the issue persists, open EtereUpdate.exe, select the Etereweb entry and click on the Etere Install button to repeat step 4. 

INSTALLATION ON CLIENTS

1. Access to the client workstation. Log in to Etereweb and download the installer from the ETERE Install/Upgrade section using the link.

2. Run the downloaded Etere Installer, it will:
- Run as the account set in step n.5 in the User for install section
- Set up the machine with the database settings read from the xml exported in step 4
- Download the zip package from the Etere website into the user’s download folder, then proceed with the installation.

3a. If Etere is not installed on the machine, it will work as a normal installation, allowing you to select the features, the login account for the services, etc.

3b. If Etere is already installed on the machine, Etere Installer will automatically proceed with the update, starting from the summary page. The user in this case can:
- Click the "Next" button or wait 30 seconds to go on with the update
- Click the "Back" button to start from the beginning as a normal installation.

UPDATE ON WEBSERVER AND CLIENTS

1. Run EtereInstall.exe and download the new zip package.

2. From EtereUpdate.exe, upgrade the Etereweb site or, if you don't need to upgrade it because you already have the last Etereweb version, select the current Etereweb site and click the Etere Install button.
In both cases, EtereUpdate.exe will do the same as described above at step 4, but the copied Etere zip package will be the new one.

3. Once done, you can proceed with updating the client machines as described above in the INSTALLATION ON CLIENTS section.
